My dad is looking at buying a used 07-09 21' North River seahawk. Has anyone been out for a ride in one? Are they a good fishing boat for the coast And or how was it in rough water\weather? There are few he is looking at with motors from 115 to 150HP. Any info helps please and thanks

Thanks any way I figured that with all of the boat intell on this site someone might have the inside info on them :head:. Oh well.

I checked out their website. Looks like an all aluminum well built boat. 1/4" thick bottom is the standard for tough aluminum boats.

Nice looking boat. Being ex-Navy, I know a thing or two about Aluminum on boats in the open ocean. I spent several years on a Destroyer that had a completely aluminum superstructure, as well as 15 months on an all aluminum Swift Boat. Simply put if you maintain it properly it will last a long, long time... but if you fail to maintain it, then it won't last a decade. Even anodised aluminum will corrode under the onslaught of constant salt water, so the boat will need to be sweetwater washed constantly. That's the downside.. the upside is that it's strong, lightweight and easily repaired if it gets into a fight with a rock or a dock. I have no idea about this particular boat, although, after visiting their website http://www.northriverboats.com/I will say it does look very well built. Truthfully, I wouldn't mind having one. :head:

THE FOLLOWING IS FROM THE NORTH RIVER MAINTENANCE MANUAL:
After running your boat in saltwater, it is required to flush the engine with freshwater (see engine owners manual) and wash the entire boat, inside and out, as well as the trailer with fresh water immediately after pulling the boat out of the water. Washing the boat is a critical means of reducing the risk of crevice corrosion and paint related corrosion. Washing should include: complete flushing of the entire boat inside and out using freshwater and boat soap. Don’t forget to wash the trailer as well. We also recommend that you wax your boat as often as possible especially prior to using your boat in saltwater. Because saltwater corrosion is not warrantable we don’t recommend mooring or excessive use in saltwater.

I just check out the website, the lines of some of their models look almost identical to the 1974 Starcraft I had.

Of course it was thin and rivited instead of thick and welded.

1/4 inch think hull? A lot of budweiser was drank to come up with enough aluminum to build that
I wounder witch one they recycled from my place? Thanks for the heads up on the Aluminum wash down didn't honestly think they would do that. They do look like a very nice boat I have read all kinds of info on them my dad has been into a few diff.. ones the last few years and is lookin for his last boat. I just want it to fit his needs and keep him on the dry side. My own boat knowlage is slim ( you catch fish on them! ) but I'm very thankfull I got my V-21 and such a wealth of experiance about them and most other boatin life issues that comes a guys way when you own one.
 Happy New Year thanks guys

Speaking of aluminum boats, the other day I was watching a fishing show, they were on a river between Washington and Oregon catching sturgeon.

Anyways, they were in an aluminum boat, looked to be 20-22 feet long, and a TILLER STEER 225 Yamaha 4 stroke!!!!!

Was Popeye Driving Forarms of steel hands of stone. We got a guy up here on the walleye circut with a 18' lund and a 200 Tiller Steer he says it gives him more controll. I would have guessed the steering wheel should have done that for a guy. :head:

Here's my two cents. I upgraded from a 17' aluminum to a V-20 and noticed a huge improvement because of the extra weight of the V-20. The light aluminum hull was really effected by the wind. It was hard to troll with a cross wind and when drifting with live bait, the wind would increase the drift speed and turn the boat. I used to have to cut my drifts short to avoid running into the fiberglass boats on the same drift. Granted, it was only 17', but I personally will stay away from aluminum hulls because I regularly have to fish in the wind on the west coast.
