2000 Johnson Wiring...???

So I have a 2000 Johnson 150 which used to run on old controls (when the repowered the '84 controls stayed and they used an adapter to hook up the post '96 johnson). I just installed new controls and cables and everything works (except tach, see below) but I can't figure out how to power the gauges (fuel and volt). On the old controls there was a two wire plug that went hot when the ignition came on and that juiced the two gauges. Now with the new controls there is only a 8 pin plug to the system check/tach but without splicing into one of those wires there is no hot for the other gauges. Any suggestions? I am thinking there may be a hot off the tach that I jumper to the others but can't figure it out.

Onto the tach, I need an extension for the 8 pin plug from the controls to the dash, is this the right part???

It sounds right, but that is the ONLY place that has it, weird...

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

S- Just finished installing a 2000 Evinrude FICHT 150 on my boat. Spent considerable time re-wiring the dash area (new gauges and GPS). Anyhow, this much I do remember for certain - the hot wire is colored purple. I cant say for sure where it comes from - but I want to say it is in the same harness bundle as the 8 pin connector to the Tach. I can take off my dash tomorrow - and check it out for you. The p/n for the cable extension looks to be the right one - from what I can tell.

By the way - what do you get for performance from that engine ? I took mine for the 1st test run this afternoon - WOT gave me 38 mph @ 5200 rpm. MPH by GPS. Prop is OEM 15x17. I was hoping for a little better !

Thanks for the help. I figured it out (with a little help from the THT board) and you are correct. Purple is keyed hot but on the Tach/system check I didn't want to splice it so I used on of the bare purple wires from the other tach setup. The harness has an 8 pin plug for tach/system check and then two sets of three bare wires, one for tach and one for system check so if you didn't have a combo gauge you can use those. I grabbed one of the purple wires from them and used that, capped the others and are good to go.

For performance (now that I have a tach) I am getting average 41.5 WOT at 5400, that is trimmed and full fuel two POB. Trimmed in she maxes at 38/39 at 5100. I am swinging a 15x17 OEM SS prop. Your WOT sounds about right if you haven't trimmed her out. Now that I have a tach I will be doing some more research on what works.
