Is a 1991 225 the same as a 1990? I ordered a manual for an engine and when it arrived it says 1990... are they pretty much the same engine?

For the most part they are the same. The jetting and such changed from 90-91 as did the carbs, intake, and the recirc valve design. The basic design of the engine is all the same still, but OMC did make SEVERALi mprovements in 91.

So a manual for a 1990 isn't going to be correct in regards to a 1991 carb set up though... I have a 1991 225 that i'm going to attempt to pull the lower unit off of and free the shaft, so I can get it pumping water again. It may turn out to be impossible for me to do, but i need a good manual for it. The manual I purchased off of ebay is an omc manual but it's for a 1990. I'm going to email the guy. Thanks! Craigan.

The actual set-up is the same, but OMC made some changes to them in 91 anticipating the major changes that came in 92 and 93 and also to help improve the idle fouling problems these engines have. The jetting will be different, but the actual set-up is the same. Also I believe in 91 is when they changed the lower units over to the fat prop shaft, but the actual parts set-ups and torque specs will all be the same for 90 and 91.

Got me one of them 1990 models, not as cool as Ferm's though.

Yours is quieter I bet though. Mine with the 98 mid and the open exhaust that came in the newer engines along with the porting I did and the fiber reeds is LOUD! This thing knocks and rattles at idle like it's about to lose a rod, but as soon as you hit the throttel though:party:.

Was that a good thing skools? I may be emailing you a lot when I break this thing open and start trying to get that rod loose. You ever do anything with that trailer I traded you?

The FASTRACK trim and tilt is a bit more compact and said to move alot faster with a load on it. It uses alot more expensive electric motor on it and from my experience are a pain to work on as the pins in them always get seized and lock themselves in place.
