1987 150hp evinrude VRO

What is you guys opinion on this motor? VRO has be disabled. Any fuel numbers? Im getting it super cheap from a guy thats good friends with my cousin

Good engine, pretty lightweight, but it is a THIRSTY PIG! Also the carbs need to be clean as the slightest bit of leaning out in mixture and it will burn a piston in no time.

The previous owner of the "84 had replaced the VRO with an electric fuel pump, not being comfortable with it I found out that model came with either VRO or TWIN fuel pumps.
So that's what I put on it.
It was thirsty and I have only 2/20 gallon tanks.

FERM, does the "84 and "87 have the same appetite?
If so Kracker Jack you can expect up to 22 GALLONS PER HOUR of sucking.

Yep, same basic engines. The larger 200/225 loopers burned just about the same amount of fuel at the same RPM's, but put out a good bit more power. The old cross flow engines were pretty inefficient engines, and alot of the fuel did pass straight through the engines unburnt(I believe it was close to 20% of the fuel went right out the exhaust). Even the later model loopers weren't that efficent. But don't think it was just an OMC problem, the 2.5L MERCS weren't much better. My 150 MERC could GULP some friggen fuel down crusing. Now late model direct injected engines of the same size burned roughly half as much fuel at cruise.

I ended up buying it today. 260.00 total for motor and battery. Hell of a deal. No fire on one cylinder but the coil is cracked and split. Im gonna fix her up some and re sell it. Im looking for a newer motor.
