Good morning. I am new to the world of V20 and to this forum. Currently I am eyeing a '79 V20 on eBay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...STRK:MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=300148497317&rd=1

I contacted the owner and got permission to drive up to inspect the vessel. The engine and outdrive were so shiny I thought they had beem repainted. The owner has assured me this is not the case. What I would appreciate is the opinion of those of you with far more experience than I as to the value of this V20. What is its worth? Is the 3,000.00 range reasonable? Thanks for your impute and thanks for a great web forum.

We have all seen this boat before, It looks great and seems to be priced GREAT!!

But just remember it has been sitting form 12 years and there is going to be issues with the gas tank, gaskets and even eletrical.

All minor stuff, just don't want you to think that its going to be a walk in the park.

If this boat is like they say it is when you get there and you have the cash BUY IT!!

Welcome to the site!

welcome aboard.......lots of guys here know lots of stuff about these boats, so if you have a question just ask away. ;D

oh yeah POST PICS >:( ;D ;)

WOW. I think this looks like a fantastic buy. Yes, there may be issues with fuel, etc., but it appears from the ad that the folks have addressed these, and perhaps recently took the V out for a trip to Maine. I think this boat is a steal. Jump on it.

I also contacted the owner about the boat. From what i can gather, $3000 isn't going to buy that boat.

I offered to come with $3000 cash and he said that was the lowest offer he had.

I think you can look for that boat to end up in the $4500 - $5000 range.

just my .02 cents

She looks nice but don't forget that the boat has been laid up since 1997. Also the boat was used for 18 years prior to laying her up. The lower unit to me looks like it was definetly painted. There is no paint missing from the skeg, yet they replaced the prop??? Maybe they just wanted better performance??? Lastly I think this boat is priced right at $3500, especially with an Escort trailer, not the best trailer.

If this boat were a 79 outboard then it would probably be worth alot more ;) ;D

Actually, I believe he's obligated to sell it to the high bidder on Ebay. It would be wrong at this point for him to remove it from the listing to sell to somebody other than the current high bidder. You can get away with that when a reserve has been set but not met, but not when it's a no reserve auction.

He's willin' to sea trial...shows confidence...if you like the boat, get it ;)...we've had LOTS of "V"s come thru here and that's about as cherry as they get 8) ...

that boat is a fine example. The only potential problem I see is that the time it spent being laid up as MJ pointed out. Two hundred hours is LOW hours for a boat of its age. Even though it appears that it has been properly prepared for that long hibernation, there will be some issues. Sometime the more gas you can push through a motor is better than "very little". If it checks out well in a sea trial I betcha he gets 4000 plus for that rig. If I was v20 shopping and wanted an I/O I'd be all over that one.

Well, I drove and looked at it. Clean doesn't even cover it. The very worst thing I could find was a small scratch of the port side the hull about dock level. I jumped in the bid but another one got it instead. He got one nice looking V.
I am looking also at the other ('83) in Jersey. Tracked down the dealership were the boats is at and found out that the sign on the boat is $8,995.00. Looks like the only thing not new on that vessel is the stern drive and the paint. I may consider bidding on that one also. I want thank everyone for their impute, it helps me get the needle and ball back in center.

$4750 was a great price!!

When you bid wait for the last 30 sec before putting a bid, I wait till the last 7 to 10 sec, but I have highspeed.

Bid the max that you want to pay + 51 cents

The bid will only advance to the next bid unless someone else has already bid something higer. I think this is called sniping? But I have won all my stuff this way ;)

the 51 cents is key! Most people bid even numbers, I have won stuff cause of the 1 cent many times ;)
