I got the 1977 v20 with its original single axle ez load trailer from a dealer for a song in Florida, towed it home empty with a smaller 140 hp v4 Evinrude that was probably not functional on it. When I repowered with larger motor and filled tanks it did not tow well at all. I went to ez loader and found out it was a 2,000 pound capacity max trailer for smaller boats and was also illegal in virginia since it did not have brakes...total gross over 3,000 of boat and trailer require brakes here. An hour later I had shopped and bought a new Venture dual axel vrt 4250 trailer in galvanized with disc brakes and a spare wheel and tire. Three weeks later the boat is on it. What an enormous difference in towing and use. The boat sits lower by almost a foot on the roller trailer as the cross frames are formed to match boat hull shape so it is easier to get into, the weight is towed lower. 30 mile test tow was best I've ever towed. Stops like a dream with surge brakes, tows like it is hardly back there. Finally got a safe trailer. The original was overloaded by at least 800 pounds, top heavy, old fashioned design and if I had a wreck the insurance company would have denied coverage since it apparently was overloaded and without brakes. Happy to have that behind me.
