08-01-07 Short trip

Sean

God
Every one ended up working late today so we only had about 2 hours to fish. Wind was about 5-10 out of the ENE. They were suppossed to be out of the SSE, so once we were out @ the spot we wanted to fish every thing was wrong. Tide was gowing west, and the wind was blowing east, so we ere sitting still ::) Unless you are out to catch skates, this is not good.  So theres a reef we fish in the fall thats literly a 1/4 mile out from were my boat is, and it has a decent slope from 20ft on the reef, to about 60 feet to the shore, yup it gets deeper the closer you get to the rocks.
Long story short, it paid off.  ;D

Here is a photo from the were we wear fishing. Right next to the mansion is the entry way into my cove.

Old, most of them were built in the late 1800's. Newport is full of them, some incredable architecture and lands scapes. I'm very lucky to live in such as senic place ;D and this fishings good to ;)

Thanks chum!
stripers, what are stripers  ;D Ya, giving the stripers a litle rest, we have been slaughtering them since May.  ;D  I'm still doing a litle striper fishing but for the next month or so I want to focus on other species.  To many of my friends focus all on stripers, even I was dead set on stripers. Now I want everything  ;D The biggest Fluke, Scup, Sea Bass, Black Fish and even Choggie  ;D
I like to consider my self well rounded ;D ;D

Shawsee, the house down the street is for sale  ;D
Wont you be, my neighbor ;D

LMAO I only wish  ::)  by the time my building lot sells and then the house. I will be too old and worn out to even think about fishing in the ocean.   :-/

Sean,

The other day my son's buddy called me and he wanted me to take him fishing, I was thrilled. My son is stationed in England in the Air Force and I miss him dearly, we use to fish all the time together. So I did the next best thing and took his buddy fishing at Point Judith. That young man was so happy you couldn't wipe that grin off his face with a 2x4! Between him and I, we took home 3 keepers and must have thrown back 25 total, but we still had a blast. He caught the biggest one that measured 22".

NICE!! ;D ;D I'm glad you got out and on to some fish. Fluke are a BLAST, specially the 1st 10 or so feet pulling them off the bottom, tuff litle buggers ;) ;D.
I bet your son is going to be real home sick when his buddy calls him and let him know of the extravagansa ;D
You getting out this weekend?

Way to go Shawsee.......did you have some frsh fluke for dinner???

I tried to go out tonight with my wife and kids but the seas were rough and the tidal rip off the Eastern Point of Fishers Island was quite nasty.......my wife was looking to put her life jacket on. We turned around and went to the beach. The fluke will have to wait until morning sans wife and kids.

Whale,

We haven't had the fluke yet but they are ready for the table. I wanted to take my son's friend fishing again Sunday but I have to milk cows at the dairy farm. I was contemplating Saturday but NOAA website is calling for some nasty weather so that sucks. :( Oh when we were out the other day we seen a repeat of the blues blitz you witnessed. The bluefish were going crazy on a feeding frenzy, by the time we stopped and got the lures/plugs on our rods they were gone that fast. :-/

Sean,
I so much wanted to go out this weekend and fish but it will have to wait as usual. I know my son will be bummed out when his buddy tells him about our trip. I never knew I could miss someone as much as I miss my son. I surely cannot wait for his hitch in the Air Force to be over with so we can resume our family life again :)

Dave,

Forecast for Long Island Sound is seas 1 ft or less in the morning......I am in an area where the NOAA forecast can vary a lot if I look at Fishers Island Sound or Block Island Sound....for Block it says 2-4 feet. In any event I will try it out.....should be OK along the RI beaches.

Update......seas were not too bad but we did a lot of rolling around this morning. The cruise out and back was fine. I think when the forecast is bad for where you normally go, you should head down to Mystic and head out in this area. Misquamicut Beach was pretty good from about 6:30-9:00. My buddy and I managed 7 keepers but it shut down after 9:00 or so. No big fish (21" max) but great ratio of keepers to shorts.....maybe 2 shorts max for every keeper. That area has been pretty steady for a while. You should give it a shot. I can give you more details on where to try but if you go on the weekend it will be obvious as there are plenty of boats around. If you get out early it is not bad.

NIce Whale! ;D sound like not a bad day at all.
Sea here in RI were alright, not ideal. 2 -4 but it was motsly SW chop so we ere bouncing around all day.
Glad you got em ;)!

The old stone mansion, man I have not fished there in 15 years!! Good for togs in the fall also!

Nice pic's!!

EXACTLY, the reef out front is my goto Tog spot ;D (and my new Sea Bass spot to ;) ;D )
MJ, we should defently to a tog trip this year, my boat is right behind the mansion and I dont even need to take the boat out of idal to get to the reef. I save allot on gas ;)
