    Lost # 6 cylinder today

Well I tore down the spare motor and the heads look much better then mine, so I will be using that block, crank and pistons. I am still waiting for the parts to arrive, checked with the supplier and they are waiting for the new wrist pin washers before they ship my order. I am still cleaning...

    RPM's out of gear

Thanks Ridge, thats along the lines of what I was thinking but I wanted to hear it from some one else to confirm it. Do you happen to remember the thread title at Scream and Fly. I may look it up to read it. Turbo

    RPM's out of gear

I think I understand why you should not rev you engine over 1200 to 1500 when running on muffs. It runs lean and can burn a piston, right? Well I have heard also that you should not rev above these rpm's even in the water and out of gear. Is this correct and if so why? Turbo

    Older Mercury Tools

Since you guys weren't any help I emailed Mercury and they search their dealers inventory and found what I was looking for. TOOLS ARE ON THE WAY. Just keep in mind that Merc can search the dealers inventory if you are looking for parts that are NLA. Turbo

    Is it really this easy?

While I had mine apart I replaced both seals under the pump. They were worn out and was leaking water into the gear case. Putting the cover back on the impeller is a little difficult. If you noticed there was a cut in the video while he was doing that part. There are torque specs for the water...

    Older Mercury Tools

Does anyone have some older Mercury tools they want to sell. I am interested in #91-49191A2 Bearing installation tool and a 91-76159A1 Piston Pin tool. If you happen to have some of these or know of anyone who wants to get rid of some please let me know. If you prefer you may email me at...

    Lost # 6 cylinder today

Thanks for the input Ridge, I was thinking along those same lines for break in. I did not how ever consider the roughness in the head as a starting point for predetonation. I was going to wire brush it clean and a little smoother, I may have to work a little harder in there now. To late to...

Screens in siphons: fire prevention or particulate catcher?

Mine does not have one. When I replaced my hose from the tank to the filter I took the tube out to look into my tank. There was no sign of a screen any where from the tank to the filter. Besides, the screen won't stop as small a particles as your filter will. If it were me I would remove it...

    Lost # 6 cylinder today

Well I think I have talked myself into rebuilding the ol' gal myself. I priced all the parts I want to replace while I have it apart and for just under $2000 I can put it back together almost like new. Parts include crank bearings, rod bearings, wrist pin bearings, all new rings, complete set of...
