    Re-painting deck w molded nonskid

Very good. Thanks for the info. I will be doing some investigating in April, but I suspect that my 1978 Cuddy is in need of a stringer rebuild. The transom was already rebuilt, but is wet again. Major work ahead when I retire in 2 years. I am hoping to cut the caps off like Shunk references...

    Re-painting deck w molded nonskid

Destroyer, This is a little off topic, but where did you cut the deck for removal? Around the perimeter? I suspect that I probably a year or so away from a major overhaul which will include deck removal and stringer repair/replacement, gas tank replacement. Thanks, Duke

    Center console project boat.

Okay, I am sure that you will find a suitable boat in the coming months before walleye season. You probably already saw this Welly on craigslist? https://cleveland.craigslist.org/boa/d/grafton-wellcraft-v20-steplift-1985/7063443939.html It's an I/O but $2k seams pretty reasonable. I will...

Good to here James. If I may ask, what are your boating plans going forward?

    What’s it worth

I would be interested, but only for the Merc parts. I have the same engine. Mine is a 1980. Runs good, but difficult to start. I really don't have a lot of interest in the boat or trailer. So, I would most likely re-post for sale on this site. Metro Detroit here. I plan on keeping my...

    Stringer Inspection

Good point regarding the limber holes...I had not thought of them. That will be the first place I check in the Spring. If they are exposed, I will most likely drill a couple of small holes and see if the stringers are wet. Thanks, Duke

    Stringer Inspection

Question: What is the best way to determine if the stringers are wet/dry? I was considering drilling a small hole in each and then filling with 3M 5200. Or, can a moister meter be used? I have a 1978 V20 Cuddy which had a transom rebuild 12 years ago by the previous owner, but a crack...

    Do you prime ?

Great question. I wish I had a good answer. 1980 Mercury 200HP. Runs great, idles good, but rarely starts without starter fluid. I squeeze the bulb until hard. I can see the fuel in the line with a new inline clear Moeller gas filter. New Moeller fuel/water separator, new Attwood bulb...

    Mercury water sepperator.

I installed a 10 micron fuel/water separator (Moeller) last year on my 78 V20 cuddy with 1980 Merc 200. It didn't even have one. Motor runs great, idles good (but won't start unless I use starter fluid - but that is a topic for other thread)

    Additional Bow weight

If you decide to move your batteries forward, I would make an effort to put them up in the cuddy wherever possible. I moved my two batteries to a compartment forward of the gas tank on my 78 cuddy, about mid-ship. It did not have the impact I had hoped. I have my two spare 3 gallon cans up on...

    Additional Bow weight

Hi Dschaffer, I have issues similar to what you have described, with the addition of a 10hp kicker and 2 Cannon downriggers. I have added 2 additional 3 gal gas cans (for a total of 3) which I keep in the cuddy to offset the added weight in the aft. Having the addition gas gives me some peace...

Very high idle/hard to find neutral

39 mph yesterday, measured via GPS. 40+ gallons of gas. One person on board. standard 3 blade alum prop. 1980 Merc 200HP.

Very high idle/hard to find neutral

Excellent, glad it worked out. My 200hp 1980 Merc idles better now that the carbs are clean and with new surface gap plugs. Need to check top speed tomorrow. Last year it was low 40's which some feel is slow for this engine.

    Keel guard question

I am kind of late to the party on the topic, but last year I used 4200 on my keel guard at that location. So far, so good.

Very high idle/hard to find neutral

Hi James, I am certainly no mechanic but...I have a 1980 Merc 200. I purchased a used Seloc mechanics manual when I purchased the boat/engine last year. If I did this right, there should be two links to pics I took of of the idle speed pages. There is a idle speed screw on the port side of...

What you doing to boat this winter

Yes, that is the plan Destroyer. It will work out fine...not sure why I was expecting that moving 90 lbs from the aft to mid-ship was going to make a huge difference. I am sure it helped some.

What you doing to boat this winter

Okay...the image post through Imgur worked pretty good. Regarding the battery relocation, I still have water in the splash well and the scuppers are still just below the water line. Moving the 2 batteries forward did not have the impact I was hoping for. The overall side profile looks good...

What you doing to boat this winter

Yes, my 78' is a cuddy. I can try to put together a rough tutorial, but I am certainly no electrician - I too am busy as usual in this Spring. Let's see how my first attempt to upload a file looks... This is before final wiring with Blue Seas terminal strips.

What you doing to boat this winter

Steplift20, My 78' has one large access panel in the floor, roughly 2 x 5 ft. I placed the batteries under this hatch, forward of the gas tank on a piece of plywood which I coated with resin. I ended up using 5200 to secure the plywood. They are about even with the helm, pretty much...

What you doing to boat this winter

Hi Dschaffer, Looks like a nice setup, but depending how she sits in the water you may want to give some consideration to moving the batteries forward. My 9.8 hp kicker weighs 90 lbs, plus the old 200hp Merc weighs 365 lbs. Both are mounted directly on the transom. I have moved my 2 batteries...
