    Thickening Polyester with Silica question

I mix the harder first then I add the silica. I do that because I never know when I have time to work on my boat and that resin may go bad before I use it.

    rebuilding my V

I was able to do some work yesterday. Sanded off the epoxy glue that leaked out the joints. Then coated the ply with resin and then put down fillets along the stringers. An interesting note is that it almost took a gallon of cabosil to thicken up a little over 2 quarts of resin. A side note, I...

    rebuilding my V

Not as much flex as you would think it would have. It helps that it's supported bow to stern on a nice 4x6 trailer bunk. I would say that the bunks are about 10ft long or so, then I have a support under the front of the bow. side to side movement is minimal. I weigh about 300lb so it's supported...

    rebuilding my V

Very good point bradford. I did want to share a tip for anyone interested. The easiest and less messy way I found to remove the foam from the side of the hull is to use a shovel. You basically just dig into the foam and it pops apart in big chunks and there isn't a bunch of dust like you get...

    rebuilding my V

I used 3 5 gallon pails so 15 gallons total Those metal looking things are 2x4's wrapped in duct tape. I used poly to laminate everything back, remember with epoxy, epoxy sticks to poly and vinyl ester but poly and vinyl ester doesn't stick to epoxy. Epoxy is over kill but I would use what...

    rebuilding my V

Update: I have been making more progress recently. I was able to grind down the old fiber glass some more. I also glued in the right stringer in today with epoxy glue. Now I have to sand off the areas where the epoxy leaked out. Hopefully this week I will be able to fillet and tab in the...

    Transom replacement

You can always cut out the exterior skin of the transom about 6 inches or so from the sides and keel. Then once all the bad core is out you can re glass the skin back on with vinyl ester resin and fair it out. It's a very common way to redo transoms especially if you are pouring one in. By...

working on a 200 HPDI for a friend, have a question

I'll pass that on, no water in fuel, I did tell them to spray some fuel in the intake. I didn't hear back from them yet though. I thought the inj driver would have shown some type of fault, but if you say it doesn't I'll see if they can swap drivers from the other engine just to test.

How far have you taken your V20 - V21 ?

We normally would go 20-30 miles out in the GOM of Louisiana. Which isn't that big of a deal considering the amount of Oil field Traffic out there. As long as you had your safety devices, VHF, Epirb someone is going to find you if somthing happens.

working on a 200 HPDI for a friend, have a question

Friend has a 200 HPDI small block. Cranks but doesn't start, it has spark, good pressure from the VST and is reading about 650-680 on the HPFP when cranking. Also has 135psi on the cylinders. No codes for open fuel inejector or anything like that. So I assumes the injector drivers are good. I...

    Pour able transom

yes it has to be dry, since it is based up on polyester resin. Poly resin can not tolerate moisture.
