rebuilding a V20 with my dad

Thanks. The wheel came off a Triton. We used to be a dealer for them and they were often removed for a different style wheel. So we have a pile of them laying around. Thanks everyone for the kind words. It has been a long time since I started this project and I sure am glad it is just about...

rebuilding a V20 with my dad

I snuck up under the shrink wrap and got a few better pics of the helm. I think it turned out pretty good from what it was before.

rebuilding a V20 with my dad

OK so it's been a while since I've updated this thread. Last winter kinda got screwed up thanks to Sandy. So nothing really got done to the boat. This winter I was Hell bent to get 'er done. I finished filling and fairing everything on the topsides. Shot everything in primer. More sanding,then...

    Transom question

Are you pretty much working on it every day over at Hinckley? I'm not doing anything this week and would love to stop by and check it out.

    Finally starting CC Restoration

I have a 225 Opti on my boat. It is a little louder than the carbed 150 Yamaha I used to have. But it actually gets better fuel economy. I only get a puff of smoke when getting up on plane after a lot of idle speed. If you already have most of the rigging than the HPDI is the way to go. A lot of...

    Finally starting CC Restoration

Wow man that's a clean hull. I used a gulper pump instead of a macerator for my fish box. It's going on 4 years old and pulls a better prime than the macerator pump did. Are you gonna do a t-top? I know you were talking about a 200 hpdi but did you ever consider an optimax? I just rigged a 150...

    Manasquan River

Nice! Those slips are a little tricky with the tide running. But well worth the money.

Pictures of your dual battery set up ?

With the weight of the big Opti out back my boat was slow to drain any water on deck. Moving the batteries up front put her right back in balance. I used the now empty spot in the back to mount a milk crate so I can keep all kinds of extra fluids, cleaners, prop wrench, etc.

Pictures of your dual battery set up ?

I went outside and took some pics. Luckily the boat is shrink wrapped and I can still get in. The wiring is a little messy because it was all moved around when I moved the batteries. And I wanted to get out to Tice's. Hope this helps.

Pictures of your dual battery set up ?

I moved my batteries to my cuddy this past summer. Next chance I get I will get some pics. You're gonna need some heavy wire. At least 2ga to go directly to the motor.

Roughest conditions you faced in the V ?

Yeah she is a trooper. We were supposed to go to the Tice's get together the following day. But I ended up going solo. She was back out the following weekend. This past Sept. we launched in the Highlands and went up the Hudson to Kingston NY. It was a nice long trip and no waves. So all I have...

Roughest conditions you faced in the V ?

It was without a doubt the worst conditions I had ever been in with my V. I don't mind so much being out in that stuff when I'm by myself. But having my wife out there made it whole different level of nervousness. Being that far from land and the depths of the water. If something bad happened it...

What's your winter " to do" list for the V ?

Don't do it man. If it ain't broke don't fix it. If the top of the transom is good just let it go. Unless you have somewhere indoors to work on it doing a transom outside during the winter would suck. It would be really bad to miss a season of fishing.

Any suggestions for trailer power winch ?

Destroyer, I'm not trying to pick apart your post. I have used the Powerwinch and the LD winches before. And for my personal use they were insufficient. Slow, noisey and expensive. For the occasional recreational use they are fine. In my opinion I have found the vehicle winches to be better. I...

Any suggestions for trailer power winch ?

I have the made in China winches on my trailer. They have been used and abused literally hundreds of times over the past few years. Especially with Sandy clean up. They are 9000 lb truck winches with a dedicated battery mounted on the trailer charged by the truck thru a quick connect. That is...

Roughest conditions you faced in the V ?

My worst day out on my V would have to be the day my wife and I launched in Cape May and ran across to Lewes De. Everything was great on the way there. Seas were calm, sunny, warm etc. We drove around in Lewes ate lunch. Then I noticed it got windy and it started to rain. So we headed back to the...

What's your winter " to do" list for the V ?

I want to replace my transom mount transducer with a tilted element,(so it doesn't kick up at speed). Replace my transom drain tubes. Compound/wax,clean etc.

    Manasquan River

Don't sweat the canal. It's really only bad on the weekends. Even then if you go through there with a little bow up attitude you will have no problem. I only took one wave over the bow of my V and it's because I was letting my daughter drive and she went into a wave at almost idle speed which...
