Prop advice... need more stern lift... Add hydrofoil?

Wow! Do you remember how many RPM's you could turn with that prop? I'm thinking that if I raise the engine height some, I'm likely to get more speed and higher RPMs, which might even allow me to go from my current 17 pitch prop up to a 19 or 20 pitch prop... assuming that I could still reach...

Prop advice... need more stern lift... Add hydrofoil?

Thank you. I was considering putting a jacking plate on the boat, but was then advised that they aren't recommended on this type of salt water boat. I don't know if the additional setback from a jacking plate would be a help or a hindrance. I did note that Suzuki took a victory lap for...

The best fuel economy - outboard on V

Added a doel-fin on Sunday, and much to my surprise WOW! I gained 6 MPH on the top end, the engine now hits 35 MPH at WOT with the motor at close to full-down and with the trim tabs all the way up, and she now hits 6200 RPM with that setup (as opposed to about 5400 without the fin). I get...

    Best ride in choppy conditions

The picture shared by ____ looks like my trim tabs. I got the bennet M120 sport tabs. I've read that those are a good size for the V20, and I'd have to agree. The shape and the "bat wing" design, give you more lift out of a smaller tab when compared to just plain flat tabs. Hodges marine...

Prop advice... need more stern lift... Add hydrofoil?

Update on my prop -- added a doel fin... HUGE improvement! Thank you @thefermanator, here's the latest updated... I added doel fin to the outboard, and WOW! I now top out at 35 MPH, and can spin the prop up to 6200 easily. That's a HUGE difference, and now the bow stays down a lot more even...

    Flying fish.....

Good to hear! I watched that flying fish video linked to a few posts above this post. Wow! Those little fish had it rough! ... but, more importantly, after watching that video I definitely have no clue how you would catch them. I doubt a cast net work work. Maybe a 12 guage with...

    Flying fish.....

OMG! Flying fish is delicious. It's always on the menu in Barbados, and boy is it good! No need to "leave 'em to the predators", if you see a school, and can catch them in a cast net, give it a try. They are really good eating! (P.S. I guess I'm a little late on my reply, but I just...

    Think it might be over?

Empire Covers - Huge sale! So glad you mentioned Empire Covers. I had not heard of them, but I went to their website and discovered that they are having a huge sale. I just got a 1200 denier nylon cover for my V20, with an add-on of a center support pole for $249 delivered!. They say...

Adding tower w/ Rocket Launcher (inexpensively)...

Update... The strap rod holder works really well. I love the tower too, and the spreader lights are pretty cool. I'll try to get some photos this weekend and post them up. You can shake the rod holder some, but I want to check and probably re-cut the pipes to make the width a little...

The best fuel economy - outboard on V

I have that exact same motor (Johnson 2003 140 4 stroke) on my V20, and it's awesome. I get about 4 MPG with it... I'm getting some electronics to measure the fuel burn more accurately, but I guess if I kept a log of miles and refuels I wouldn't need the fancy stuff. Working in my prop...

@Destoryer, If for some reason you don't purchase this boat, I am very interested, and would like to be next in-line, so-to-speak.

    1976 V20 Need Gone $1000

I believe you're real. Would you consider selling me the tower with the rocket launchers, top, enclosure and the anchor roller / bow pulpit? That is, assuming I can get someone to come by, remove them and transport them to me... which I *might* actually be able to do. Please email me...

Adding tower w/ Rocket Launcher (inexpensively)...

Big plans... we'll see how well they work! i agree that it should be beefier. I don't plan to put 30# class reels in it... that's just asking for trouble. I also don't plan to troll from it... at least not from the top. It's mainly intended to get unused rods up and out of the way...

    1976 V20 Need Gone $1000

Thank you for sharing information on your boat. I very much wanted to buy it and take a road trip to Florida to get it, but my wife said (blah... blah... blah)... I didn't get it all, but it was something about my already having one V20, and fiscal responsibility, and not enough time to take on...

Adding tower w/ Rocket Launcher (inexpensively)...

So, I found an aluminum DIY tower w/ rocket launchers that is CHEAP (about $175 delivered on Amazon) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018830AFA In the reviews, most people liked it. Some complained about needing to take your time as you cut down the pieces, de-burr them and assemble it...

Prop advice... need more stern lift... Add hydrofoil?

Thanks! Anyone have specific props to recommend? Thank you, @spareparts, For my motor it's spec'd for up to 14" diameter, so I guess I'm looking for a four blade prop with a 15 pitch, and not a lot of rake. The factory Suzuki prop has aggressive rake... I was looking at the Mercury Inertia...

A little late to the party with a reply... but I picked up my '84 V20 this summer, and already had Bennet trim tabs that I bought on hand, so I installed them before I ever took her out. Huge, huge difference (Thanks WellcraftV20)... it was thanks to here and one other board (THT)... that I...

Prop advice... need more stern lift... Add hydrofoil?

I have a 1984 V20 cuddy with the 60 gal in floor tank. My motor is a 2003 Johnson (Suzuki) 140 HP 4-stroke. I added Bennet hydraulic trim tabs, and they are great.... However, at speed, I usually have to have them about half-way down to keep the bow down and avoid pounding. Since the trim...

    Affordable tow vehicle......

I use a 2008 Toyota 4Runner limited V8. It has full time 4wd, and 4lo. I added a 2nd aux trans cooler... Just for security. It already had a factory aux trans cooler, but I kept that AND added another one. I put on fj cruiser coil springs and Bilstein 5100 shocks which give it a 2 inch...
