    Water pump replacement

spareparts, I tried what you described below, and it didn't completely engage into gear. I was thinking if the prop is in nuetral, should I turn the drive shaft as I turn the shift shaft to re-engage the gears? If I do turn the drive shaft, should I remove the water pump again, or if I only...

    Water pump replacement

I unbolted the lower unit today and replaced the water pump and it all went well until I went to re install the lower unit back on the engine. It went in, but seems to be stopping about an inch shy of where it should be. The engine is in forward gear and was there prior to intial disassembly. I...

    Removing the steering wheel

No worries about chevy comments.  ;) It's a sweet truck and I am very happy with it.  It's only 9 months old and it's the first truck I've owned.   Skools - thanks for the ebay tip for a wheel.  I jumped on last night - there is one that ends tonight.  We'll see what happens. Carl

    Removing the steering wheel

ITS OFF :) :) I used a puller and it came off. A small piece broke off the left side. I floated the idea of getting a nice SS wheel and my wife agreed. We'll see what the budget looks like when I am ready to put it back on, but for now it is off. Only a few splinters to show for it. Here are...

    Removing the steering wheel

Thanks guys for the advice. I sprayed it up good today and left a ragged saturated with WD40 sittting on it for now. I didn't realize it was a tapered shaft. That makes more sense. It is a platic wheel and may not take kindly to getting hit with a hammer. I might try the puller and small pieces...

    Removing the steering wheel

I am in the process of removing the steering wheel. The steering system seems very sloppy and seems loose within the console. I was hoping to remove the wheel and be able to tighten up the steering mechanism. I removed the nut in the center of the wheel, but the wheel is not coming off. ...

    Should i foam it ??

The 52 gal I have I don't believe has baffles in it. I don't believe the 40 gal I took out had baffles either. garagenc, the frame I added is has a couple of screws to the stringer then glassed in. The frame that came out looked like someone messed around with it prior to me taking it out...

    Should i foam it ??

Jeff, I agree with you that the frames are supposed to be structural members of the boat. However, once I removed all the foam, I found out that the frame just forward of the fuel tank was not serving a structural purpose. I only held the foam in place because after I removed two screws from...

    Should i foam it ??

One item to note about that tank: I had to move a frame forward a bit for the tank to fit. I accepted that because from what I could see of the frame, it was in poor shape. What I found out, was the only function it performed was holding the foam in place. It was not structurally attached to...

    Should i foam it ??

I used an anti fatigue mat that I bought at Home cheapo. The mat is what they use in restaurant kitchens. It was around $20. It's a little less than 1" thick. I cut it into 3 long strips and put my tank on that. I used some wood on top to hold it in place and used a small amount of foam only in...

C Yensen, Yes to both questions. I let kevin know about the boat when found out he was interested in a purchase. The rest is history. I have a '78 V-20 steplift with a 1988 Merc Rebuilt. I got the boat for a song, but everything needed work. So far - completely rebuilt the trailer, added the...
