    81V20

Hey Kevin, Good to see you on the site. I talked to my buddy at work - who was responsible for me getting my V20, and he said the same thing I told you. The big unknown is how far the damage goes under the soft deck. If the stringers and frames are soft - you are in for a very time consuming and...

    Starter and Trim/ Tilt

I'm back in business. Thanks for advice guys. Sure enough - After replacing both battery cables and starter cables, both the starter and power tilt worked fine. After that, for good measure, I cleaned all the connections, topped off the power tilt fluid and charged the battery. Carl

    Starter and Trim/ Tilt

After running for over an hour I go to start up after some fishing and the starter gear is not popping up to engage the flywheel. We ended up pull starting the motor and it fired right up. Does this require the started to be replaced, or can the Bendix drive be replaced? Then, I'm approaching...

Just reading an article about the detriments of ethanol fuel with marine engines. Does anyone have any experience with this yet. Ethanol fuel may leave boats dead in the water By J. STAAS HAUGHT Staff Writer, (609) 272-7253 (Published: May 2, 2006) If rising gasoline prices aren't...

    Grounding fuel tank

Once again, I am resurrecting an old post with a similar question. A few people have asked, but I haven't seen an answer yet. - Do you have to ground a plastic fuel tank, and if so, - how? - It seems like a silly question, but I've read about static build up on the plastic tank. Any way to...

    1992 v20 Fuel tank replacment

G1 - The dimensions of my boat did not allow to use the Todd tank. I had a line on that very tank for about $300 as well. The distance from the top of the centerline stringer to the underside of the deck is 15.5 inches. That is my particular boat which is a '78 hull. The other thing you need to...

    1992 v20 Fuel tank replacment

I actually bought it from a guy at work. He bought it new from http://www.overtons.com/modperl/overtons/order/items2.cgi?request=aisle&catnum=2C4G It is the 52 gal model. It lists new for 299.99 plus shipping. I got from him for a lot less since he bought a few years ago (cheaper) for a...

    1992 v20 Fuel tank replacment

Another question on installing a new tank. I pulled the original 46 gal aluminum tank and obtained a 52 gallon plastic tank which will fit real nice. How do you guys restrain the tank. Do I just put a couple of 2x4s over it and that's it or do you use rubber strips and retaining straps - Any...

    Fuel tank level indicator

Hey all, I am resurecting this old post since I have just removed my fuel tank from my V-20. It was a pain, but not as bad as I thought. My question is - after I install my new tank, I am thinking of putting a fuel meter in instead of the traditional sending unit. I can get a NAVMAN F2100 meter...

    Merchant Marines

Just a thought - if you are already going to college or plan on attending, maybe look into Maine Maritime. It's a college and licensing all in one. You get the schooling and the training along with some sea time. Any of the maritime schools do this including the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings...

    Overheat Alarm

How can ya tell what temperature the thermostats are rated for? I replaced both yesterday and the guy asked me what temp are they? It is a rebuilt merc 150 (1988) and I don't really know. He gave me t-stats that are rated for 130 degrees and said they should work fine. Do they have markings that...

The same thing happpened to me yesterday. The alarm came on - for the first time about a half hour away from the slip. I shut down, waited a few minutes, restarted and it would go a way for a while. I unfortunately didn't know what it was for a little while. The engine only has a few hours on...

    SEATOW vs BOAT US

Since I will be getting my boat back next week after the new (rebuilt) power is put on, it will be the first time I will be putting her in the water. I was wondering which towing service most of you use? SEATOW or BOAT US? Any comments, experiences with either? I will be boating in Long Island...

    Fuel tank level indicator

Can someone shed some light on which wires go where on the tank level indicator? I have a red and black wire that look like they were at some point in their life connected to the indicator. They are both broken off and I don't know which wire goes on which connection. One connection is a spade...

    Fuel fill hose

I did the job yesterday. The fill hose had a 1978 date molded in it. Original equipment. I replaced the vent hose and also the hose from the tank to the engine. Now I am in the process of removing fuel from the tank. The boat sat for over two years with the fuel in her. I've pulled about 21...
