    Va Beach v20 project

Another tip to consider if you have air bubbles that you just cannot live with that form after you go to bed, you can go to any pharmacy and buy a hypodermic needle with a 16 guage needle that will fill em up nicely. Are you still using the 1708?

    So Here She is

Thank you for the comments Kracker. I have been trying to come up with a solution to bed the stringers to the sole from underneath doing this rebuild in this way. My thoughts are that once complete, insert the cap in the hull, do a test fit, then lift, "decorate" the tops of stringers and place...

    So Here She is

Couple more pics. I put the cap on the trailer so that I could work on this back home so I can appease the ms. with a little face time. :fight:

    So Here She is

Time for an update and a few pics. I wish I had taken a few of the structural work prior to the flip but there will be time for that later. I've glassed in the stringers and the grid outside of the stringers leading to the chine. All the wood for the anchor storage, additional hull support near...

    bottom paint

I'm glad you were able to find something that worked for you. I can tell others that if it sits too long it resolidifies and doesn't work as well. There is a sweet spot in the amount of time it takes to soften the paint and then get hard again. If I had not tireds to do it all at once I could...

    bottom paint

That aviation paint stripper is really amazing. Put on one coat, pressure washed, put on another coat, pressure washed....bottom paint gone. Started at 5:42, done at 7:19

    bottom paint

Sounds like this months site project is stripping bottom paint. I have my hull flipped over and it is still a real *****. I've gone through (50) 80 grit disks and now up to (10) 50 grit and still am not half-way done after around 8 hours. I couldn't imagine doing this work on my back. I'll...

    What to charge???

Yeah man, remember it was built/dredged to ship goods North and South during WWII to keep the U-boats from sinking our ships that were having to make the unprotected coastal run. Much of NC looks like a large drainage ditch cut through the swamp about 75 yards wide.

    What to charge???

Take the job, your only regret would be passing up the opportunity. You have protected waters via the Intercoastal Waterway most of the way. My only advice would be to make sure you have good charts for the entire trip. Having spent a good deal of time running the Innerbanks I can tell you it...

    Va Beach v20 project

From this site under the history tab. Probably close to this (1920 LBS) but my guess is that weight was added. I know mine is than new but not significantly more than when restoration started with all the water-logged foam.

    Va Beach v20 project

Congrats on getting back at it. You're in the home stretch now! Looking forward to seeing your progress. I finally finished my stringers and flipped the hull today to start on the hull, prepping for paint and flipped the cap ready for working on rotten spots on the deck. Time to fire the...

V boats - rough water handling

^^^Holy sheep man! Good idea with turning out of the roll. It sounds like it was a slower process than I would have imagined if you had time to get boots off. I've thought about that same scenario. Do you think a couple large scuppers to the bilges below deck would have helped the bailing...

V boats - rough water handling

I've spent alot of time thinking about that scenario during my current rebuild. Particularly in foam placement. My 81 had foam below deck. My line of thinking is that if the boat swamped, buoyancy low would cause the boat to turtle and roll. Now with the boat upside down the weight of the motor...

    Rebuilding VRO

When my fuel pump went I did away with the VRO entirely. My engine guy recommended going that route as he said VRO's give him alot of rebuild work. The downside is that my engine runs a little rich at idle but cleans right up once I get underway.

V boats - rough water handling

I don't have tabs but typically have at least 20 gallons of extra gas in the bow when I head way out. I've been in 6-8 and building...not by plan. Mine is a center console. I've never taken one over the bow underway; ever. I rarely come home without a water-logged sack. Dry ride my boat is not...
