    steering cable

I have a 1989 cuddy with an outboard. I replaced my old system last year with a Teleflex NFB (p/n SS14716) which has a 16' cable. The NFB steering head is larger than the old one so it was a pain to install in the console but it was doable without cutting anything. The splashwell had to be cut...

    Aluminum cap on transom

That trim is the number one place where water enters and soaks the wood in the transom. Hopefully if yours has moved it is still dry underneath. Regardless, if I had the motor off and was going to fix or replace that trim I would discard it and glass over the exposed wood.

    Transom

This is from the Git-rot website: "GIT"-ROT will eventually cure in damp wood. However, "GIT"-ROT will not displace water. So wet wood cannot be fully saturated. Any reduction in the amount of "GIT"-ROT simply reduces ultimate strength. Dry the affected area as much as possible. Soaking with...

Johnson 130 wont idle in gear

I had a similar problem on a 200 Merc EFI. Would idle in neutral but died in gear. Running it on the earmuffs in the driveway you could pull spark plug wires off one at a time and see that cylinders one and two were dead, three and four were barely running and basically five and six were the...

    2.4L 200 merc acceleration issue

I have a '95 2.5L 200hp EFI Merc. It had a similar issue and it turned out to be a switch pack. The stator was replaced a few years before I got it for unknown reasons and per the mechanic, a bad stator will stress the switch packs so they should be replaced at the same time. Mine weren't...

Trailer brakes and frequent salt water use..

Two salt water seasons on my Kodiak SS and couldn't be happier. The Titan actuator less so - the ball lock is a poor design IMO..

    Is a 200 optimax (525lbs) to much for an ‘83’ V20

Difference in old school vs new school HP ratings shouldn't matter much IMO. The 150 lbs can be tested by having your buddy stand next to the motor during a variety of conditions. I would guess that it would be at the limits but mostly ok.
