I did this last year and after a lot of research... I wet sanded with 1000g then 1500g. After that I used a 3M marine compound and finishing material. Them a 3M wax with scotch guard. It made an '87 cuddy friggen look brand new. I just threw on a new coat of the same wax today for the summer.

Well, I posted this problem and went on a quick working vaca to upstate NY. I'm back, and it was bothering me yesterday - it ended up being the purple wire running from the ignition to the engine. Power for the starter was fine. Unhook the purple wire, hook up a bypass to the engine and bam...
