Replacing stringers while on Roller trailer

As far as getting the cap on and off you could easily build a couple really large saw horses and use a comealong and some ratchet straps. That large forklift will run you probably $3-5 hundred each time you have to bring it out including the delivery and pick-up. Lumber in building a lift will...

    bottom paint

Your gel coat is your sealer. Once you get your bottom paint off you go from there. The primer binds the paint to the gel coat. If your gelcoat is very damaged then you need a sealing primer. Primer generally is not a sealer. The bottom paint is for the antifouling. Before deciding on the paint...

Replacing stringers while on Roller trailer

I should have asked if you are going to cut the floor out or pop the cap off. As you said, you replace the transom then the stringers. Replacing one stringer at a time will be a PITA. Its nice to get down to a clean slate before you start building back. Your looking at a project thats...

Replacing stringers while on Roller trailer

I would take it just a step further. Essentially build a bunk trailer on your 4x4's. Use (2) 2x6x10 bolted to your (2) 4x4's on either side separated so that they are the same distance apart as your stringers (about 33"). I would use my skill saw and rip an angle at the top similar to your boats...

    Loosing my fishing mate

Aussie, based on my grandparents, my parents and myself all are headed for the same fate provided something else doesn't get us first. Watching my grandparents getting eat up with it has led me to spend alot of time researching potential cures. I have to say some treatments are looking very...

    Vacation

I hear the mahi bite is on right now as well if you can get the weather to get in and out of Oregon Inlet. I would say the most fun saltwater fishing there is to me is bailing dolphin at weedlines. Squid on a jighead and you are in business.

    Heavy fiberglass mat

The only potential headaches I foresee is trying to wrap your radii and you are obviously going to have a bunch of them. I'm sure you will be able to figure out a system to get them to lay down and hug your mold. Could always vacuum bag.

    bottom paint

I'm on my 4th coat of Interlux A2000 primer. I'll be sanding down what I have before applying my last coat of primer, sanding again with 80 grit and I hope to begin application of the Interlux VC Performance next weekend.

    bottom paint

If you plan to leave your boat int e water for more than 72 hrs at a time you should really use bottom paint. There are several types to choose from dependant upon how you typically use your boat and the amount of time it stays in the water. Using something other than bottom paint will cause...

    Great time

Before you replace the tire, check around online and you may be able to find a tire with rim for less than alot of what these guys try charging for just the unmounted tire...but yeah that sucks, at least it was after the days events

3/4 of the way through a 73' steplift rebuild!

Awsome! Let us know how the gelcoat works out. I plan to recore some hatches sooner rather than later and was thinking gelcoat underneath.

Got me a ride on the Reel Deal

Small world, I worked on Ocean Isle for three years. Drove down from North of Wilmington everyday. What a great way to start the day, coming over the Intercoastal and seeing that big ocean.

    Transom Question

I have an 81 with a 200 hundred rude on the back with a jack plate. Mine is a center console so I would think even lighter in the bow. While not recommended as acceptable, my transom was rotted all to hell and it never flexed or showed signs of flex. Only knew I had a problem when putting on a...

    Disturbed boat porn

Teak always looks good and will stand up well to the elements long after the varnish wears off but holy mackerel that stuff is high dollar. I found a bunch of mahogany and it came out really nice. Some is a light grain while other pieces are a deep red. It all looks good but the deep red really...
