outboards would be one of the worse engines to work on especially salt water ones a small job ends up in a big job and most good mechanics if they find something else wrong will suggest fixing it . the only repair you can put on a time frame is a service .My biggest problem with repairing cars...

Crankshaft is finally get machined and balanced . Spares I told him to check the cam tunnel he said he and a co worker were looking at it and said you cant even see were the cam was running on the block but is going to measure it up today. They have never seen or worked on one of these engines ...

when cleaning fuel tanks I always add 1 litre of mentholated spirits to the tank--water mixes with metho and metho mixes with fuel I guess you all know that :laugh:
