The spring is here Spanish has arrived thread

The small ones is pretty much all we get down here. I've never seen what most would call an average size bluefish in the Atlantic, down here on the Gulf side. The ones we get are only 2-4 lbs normally(under 20 inches is the norm). The biggest one I've caught down here was on the flats, and he...

The spring is here Spanish has arrived thread

I eat them. They're not great, but they're very edible if you clean and prep them properly. Same with jack crevalle, yes there is much better eating, but in the winter when jacks is all that's biting, they'll make a dinner.

    Max HP on a V20

I looked at a v-20 center console with a 140, and I thought it was powered just right. Boat lept on plane with no trouble, and ran out close to 40. My cuddy had a 1.6l sea drive which was only 115hp at the flywheel, maybe 105hp at the prop, and it had no trouble getting up on plane with a fair...

    Max HP on a V20

A prop change probably would have made all the difference in the world. Prop selection is far more crotical than most believe, and can make the difference between a boat that works or not. That 155 evinrude was nothing more than a regular 150 with flat exhaust chest. Theres alot of v-20 owners...

    Max HP on a V20

Max rated hp was 235hp. Weight wise, back in 86 a 235hp outboard weighed about 375lbs iirc(what's funny is a 225hp weighed 450lbs, 235 was a wimpy flywheel rating, the 225 was propshaft rated). I would do my best to stay under 500lbs engine weight, and get as much hp you could under 500 lbs.

    I'm home

I know what you mean about the pain meds. Unfortunately I'm stuck. They don't know what is wrong with mine(other than my hip is throwing everything off), so my only option is pain meds. For awhile they gave me some life back, now that things have gotten worse, they've taken what little I had...

    1990 Evinrude tiller handle question

If it's like my 4.5hp, look near the bottom of the actual twist handle and there will be 2 tabs you push in. This allows the handle to slide forward. Be carefull as there is rollers and a pin inside that connect thethrottle cable to the ramp mechanisms. Once the handle is apart, it just...

    V20 i/o

My labrum was com0letely torn in my left hip as well as the cartilage ripped out, and they repaired it arthroscopically, so I would definately get another opinion on that one. As to my back, I've been ordered to bed rest after my ER visit 2 weeks ago. I have severe swelling in my lower back from...

    Is a 200 optimax (525lbs) to much for an ‘83’ V20

If it's transom mounted, I would think you'll be fine, but it would be a good idea to move some weight forward like your batteries if you can. Otherwise install some check valves in your deck drains, and call it a day. Myself I would be looking for a 2.5l optimax if it was my money. The 3.0l...

    V20 i/o

Also seen this one. If I wasn't in a jam like I am right now, I would be going to look at it. But it's tough to even look at a boat, let alone inspect one when your back is swollen and pinching your nerve stem. https://tampa.craigslist.org/hdo/boa/d/20-ft-wellcraft/6475980848.html

    96 v21 200HP Merc

Was browsing CL and came across this one. I think I've posted it before, but it could be a bargain for somebody if it checks out. https://tampa.craigslist.org/hil/bod/d/1996-wellcraft-vhp-mercury/6461898873.html

    Prop Selection

I had got all excited when I found a v-21 theft recovery, drove 2 hours to look at it, and man was I let down when I could see under what was torn up. I thought maybe it was just that 1, but others confirmed it on theres too.

    Only how many days till......?

Hopefully another month or so and the inshore waters will warm up enough for life to return.

    Prop Selection

I was the one that posted about that about 10 years ago after I looked at a v-21 that was a theft recovery, had the deck ripped out, and seen it. I was shocked when I could see light coming through the glass.

    Prop Selection

Some hulls run faster with 4 blades, each boat is different. My 19 carolina skiff picked up almost 3 mph going from a 3 blade 17 pitch solas to a 4 blade 17 pitch solas. My hydrasports liked a large diameter 3 blade. Kept the same top end, but picked up big time in the cruise area. Many people...

    pontoon boat prop question

Looked up your prop number, and it's a 14x11 mercury black max entry level aluminum prop(not one of my favorites). It's supposed to use the flo-torque ii hub kit. If it does, I would say try the michigan wheel 941411. It's a 4 blade 11 pitch aluminum prop that also used a flo torque type hub. As...

    pontoon boat prop question

Coming from somebody who grew up boating around nothing but rocks, oysters, and tree stumps, you will NEVER see a stainless prop on my boat if I'm boating anywhere NEAR those areas. As my dad told me, aluminum props are cheaper than prop shafts, and it's not hard to change a prop and be back...

    Prop Selection

His current prop is an OLD MERCURY 3 blade 18 pitch aluminum, I would expect a 2-5 mph increase in speed with most any decent stainless prop over an old tech aluminum. Aluminum has gotten better through the years, but his aint one of the better ones.

    Prop Selection

Most any good prop shop will also do this. Admiral c&b used to swap me out for no charge so long as I brought the prop back in new condition. I know general propeller in Sarasota also has some good exchange policies, they will also repitch the prop for you for free if it's close and only needs a...

    Prop Selection

Did a quick search, and I would say this prop would probably be a good starting point. Most with a 150-200 hp outboard say a 17 pitch is a good pitch for all around performance. Otherwise I would look at a michigan wheel Amita 16 pitch 4 blade in there stainless props with the exchangeable hub...
