    Soft Floor Test

You can also use a rubber mallet to check integrity. You you give it a light smack and listen to the sound, wether the hammer bounces back, and how much the panel moves. Remember, you're testing, not demo ing it, so just a light smack. You'll get a feel for it after a few minutes and can tell...

    150 hp vs 200 hp?

There's another option MANY overlook. Buy a couple of different props for each application, then a lower HP engine can do it all. Then again, even with a 225 its a good idea to get a different prop for water sports than what you would use for cruising/running. It doesn't cost that much to pick...

    engine test

I used to have a short 5/8" water hose with the male end cut off so I could slide it over the water tube, hose clamp it, and feed it water straight from the hose. It worked nice for checking for combustion leaks because you could drop the water flow way down, then look for bubbles in the pee stream.

    New to Boating; First V20

Not really. That was a 235hp flywheel rated engine, and they were STRETCHING it to call it a 235. It was later changed to the EVINRUDE XP which was a 175HP rated engine. Problem was, it EARNED the nickname 2 thirsty 5. It was a crossflow engine and only 2.6L to crank out that power. It NEEDED 2...

    Visit From Michael

And there's talk of changing the building code standards which means even if insurance re-imburses them for a total loss, it won't cover the cost to build to the new standards. I seen alot of this after Charlie went through Punta Gorda back in 04. Many people lost there childhood homes and...

    Surface Gap Spark plugs

I do as well, but sometimes they reccomended both styles, one was for general use, and the other for sustaned high rpm runs. Omc used to do this with the ql77jc4 gapped plug for general use, or the ql7iyc which had an extended electrode for sustained high rpm use. They worked great if you were...

    Surface Gap Spark plugs

I wouldn't if it was mine. Surface gap plugs are good if you're running it flat out for long periods of time, but for mixxed use with some idling they tend to foul out easy. Whenever an engine called for a surface gap or an electrode style, I always used an electrode style.

Johnson 130 wont idle in gear

When you cleaned the carbs, did you clean the pickup tubes? Does that engine have adjustable idle mixture screws?

    Baby forces sale - 1983 V20 Cuddy + 1989 Johnson 200 - Jax FL

Oh man, I wished I could pick this up, but my health just won't let me do anything right now. Good luck with the sale, but that spare trailer will get your asking price by itself. I wouldn't take less than $1200 for just a tandem axle aluminum trailer in useable condition.

2005 Honda 225 fuel in oil???

I'm not really up on the 4 strokes, but they say over propping a 4 stroke causes this. You lug the engine, carbon builds up, and then the rings start leaking down and you make oil. I would reccomend doing a heavy dose of ring free and making sure you're propped so that at wide open you reach the...

    Opinions?

When I made the trip from Boston to Englewood in 05, we avoided the icm from Georgia to Florida until we had to go in at Stuart to go across the state. We stopped in St Mary's overnight, but no way would I consider using the icw through there. You have to go a fair ways offshore from the...

    yamaha ox66 225 issues

Have you put a fuel pressure guage on it and checked the high pressure pump output? Idling high in nuetral and chugging under load sounds like fuel starvation to me.

    350 mercruiser fuel economy

You need to know exactly which engine you have. 4000 to an early engine is dead on, some turned 4400, and late model vortecs go up to 5k-5200. Also check your outdrive gearing. It sounds like your gearing may be off for a 350 as I would expect a 17 or maybe a 19 pitch prop on that boat, but not...

    Repower Prop question

I would be checking the splines of your prop shaft for damage. The prop must slide all the way forward to the thrust washer and on far enough so that the prop slides just inside the gear case to seal exhaust gasses. Some props do use a different washer arrangement to hold them on, but to my...

    scared sh!tless..........

Yep, nothing can scare you quite like the thought of not being here tommorrow. I know I had to change my life a few years ago, but unfortunately my weight is still a big problem. Getting old aint for sissy's, my problem is I'm not really "old" yet, so I'm really not looking forward to getting "old".
