1995 Merc 200HP - its not broke. Should I fix it?

Sending the injectors to brocato or somebody like that is a great idea. These are open loop systems meaning they don't really monitor the engine. They check coolant temp, throttle position, MAP, and RPM's, that's it. So if the injectors are not flowing properly, that's a good way to throw the...

    350 mercruiser fuel economy

A set of vortec heads and a cam swap could really help out your economy. Pretty sure marine engines in 92 used swirl port truck heads. They're not that great for economy, and IMO have way to low of a powerband to them for marine use. Just be carefull, Alpha outdrives do NOT take kindly to alot...

Yamaha OX66 225s- Tell me everything

Don't forget the added maintence costs of oil changes, filters, zincs, ring free, and so on when figuring your actual numbers. The cost of 2 stroke oil is pretty much offset by the cost of oil changes. I see where you're going with this presenting it to your wife, but be honest with yourself...

    Golden Grouper

I've always been a fan of fried myself. I've got a recipe for oven fried that's pretty good fried flavor without the greasiness.

Yamaha OX66 225s- Tell me everything

I can tell from the pics that the starboard prop has a good bit more cup to it. The cupping is one of the 1st parts to wear off, and can make or break how some props perform. Those aren't quite a semi-cleaver blade as they're rounded instead of squared, but I would say they look like Yamaha...

    Larger boat discussion

As far as I know, Suzuki is still one of the worst for corrosion. They use ALOT of zincs in them to help deal with it. For a newer engine like that, vyou do have the advantage of knowing it should still be good, and you could keep on the flushing and protection. Yamaha is still the best from what...

Yamaha OX66 225s- Tell me everything

When having a prop rebuilt, I always reccomend doing them in pairs. Many shops use universal dies to shape the blades which can be good or bad. Many times a certain size of prop can comein 20 different blade types, or more. You really need to have a prop rebuilt on a die made for just that...

    It’s happening again!!

It has the bubble back exhaust chest, so it is a 140 cross flow engine provided it still has the big carbs(1 5/16" bore I believe for the 140 cross flow). They made them up to the early 80's, but in 85 the 140 looper came out. They were powerhead rated, but were said to be pretty close to...

    Another trim tab question

I've had both, and actually liked the electric tabs more simply for the instant response to changes. With hydraulic tabs you have to wait for the pump to build pressure for the tab to move, and there was always a brief delay in response to the switch. My lenco's gave me no trouble what so ever...

    Low RPM = More Fuel?

For that size engine, you won't see much difference. It takes X amount of fuel to make Y amount of HP, and Y amount of HP to go Z in speed. It's not like you're comparing a small 2 cylinder kicker to a 4 cylinder primary pusher engine. I doubt you would see a huge difference if both kickers were...

    Time for new bellows

Is your hose kinked that goes from the bellhousing to the gimbal? That's the main thing that jumps out at me.

Yamaha OX66 225s- Tell me everything

You will not double your milage unless you troll ALOT, and I do mean ALOT! The fuel economy diffetence for long runs is no where near as much as most think it is. At idle to low load situations, yes, you will see a big jump, but at cruise to wot the realistic improvement should be in the 10-25%...

Yamaha OX66 225s- Tell me everything

Outdated technology I'll give you, outdated performance is a big negative IMO. I know DFI's run good, but it's tough to beat the performance AND lighter weight of the old school 2 strokes. And the 225 ox-66's were true beasts utilizing the larger displacement block of the 250's. So yes, they use...

Yamaha OX66 225s- Tell me everything

I don't have much experience with them myself. I know it's an old school 2 stroke design engine with basic fuel injection, but I believe the ox66's used an oxygen sensor mounted in the powerhead in the top of the exhaust port to provide air/fuel data to the ecm to help eek some milage out of...

    Wellcraft 25' Coastal

I've been on a couple and wasn't super impressed. I've heard with a single I/O they ride nice, but I've only been on outboard powered ones. The one with twin 225's on a bracket was nice on flat water when you wanted to boogy, but put it in a chop and it slammed pretty hard even with the tabs...

We made it through the storm fine. Once they forecasted 100-120 mph winds for my area, we loaded up the travel trailer, and were gone. We have some friends in Slidell that let us park for free, and it was plenty far enough away. We got back this morning hoping to save what we could. No major...

    pros.... cons.... 4WD vs AWD

Mpg is negligeable with most awd systems since they're only active when a controller commands them on. They work fine for many situations, but keep in mind many awd systems are not selectable, so you're at the mercy of a controller to decide if you need all wheels powered or not.
