    Operation "Hatch Repair" underway

If you ever do this again, put the more ridgid portion (the plywood) on the ground and the sheet of cured glass on top and then add weight. Thickened resin also helps ensure no gaps.

V21 Steering Cable Broke - Near Disaster!

Good luck putting the motor in reverse at speed with a dog clutch. Go for that ignition key. I had a wire pop off the ballast resistor while running close to 30mph once in my boat. You'd be amazed how fast the thing stopped.

    Trasom repair from the outside...

If you're good, you can salvage the glass on the outside of the transom to really cut down on cost and time. When you lay new glass, you can see that you are getting a good bond between the glass and wood. If reusing the old, you're going to have to do some things to ensure you get a good bond...

    Quicky

Next time you drill stainless, go slow with lots of pressure. You only get one chance to cut with stainless or it will work harden. I've had regular HSS bits make a hundred holes without sharpening, then I've also had moments where I had to sharpen a bit nearly 10x to make a single 1.5" deep hole.

    Added My Wash Down & 5200 ?

It says it takes 7 days to cure, but the stuff cures under water. It's usually completely tack free after 3 days. It should be safe to dip by then. When you're done, put the tube in the freezer. It will be good for months. 5200 is moisture cured, the only way to keep it from curing once it has...

    Plywood?

You can use end-grain balsa if you can get it.  Your cover will be nice and light. Short of marine ply, I believe ACX would be the next best (I think that's what it's called). It has no knots like marine ply, but it doesn't have waterproof glue. If you encapsulate it, that shouldn't be an issue...

    gas prices SU*K!!!!!!!!!!

I want to go dirt biking tommorow. I figure I'll burn 5 gallons of gas in the bike alone if I ride all day. Premium is $3.77 a gallon right now. Oil is $10.95 a quart. I figure another 5 gallons for the truck. I don't have the money, but I have to ride tommorow because it rained today (no dust).

    Gas mileage

Yeah, my boat with a dud cylinder was doing better than that. Last time out we probably went 15 miles and burned 10 gallons and were on and off plane a lot. Darn 8 cylinder engines are so smooth, you don't even feel it when a cylinder drops off the line.

    Stringer replacement report - UPDATE

Re: Stringer replacement report and question I replaced part of a stringer, it was fairly easy.  If you're not removing the whole stringer, make sure you scarf the joint.  I used thickened West System to bond everything and then laminated with 2 layers of 1.5 oz mat and 1 layer of 24 oz. roven...

The barrier coat you applied will prevent the galvanic corrosion between the paint and aluminum.

    muriatic acid flush

If you flush, I would think it should be done with a caustic solution and not an acid.  Acids will remove rust and leave behind bare iron which will just rust up again.  Corrosion that occurs when bases are involved usually involve the formation of magnatite and hematite which will actually...

    Grease?

I use Sta Lube Marine or High Temp Disk Brake grease. They are both aluminum complex greases which have better water washout resistance than lithium based greases. The high temp bearing grease has moly in it so I use it anywhere wear is a problem or there is a lot of pressure on parts...
