I have a 1988 v-20 cuddy it has a 130 yamaha two stroke, same year. i'm not looking for a speed boat. Mostly go out in a bay fishing 3 people the most. What HP 4 stroke and brand do you guys think. Ty

I repowered 10 years ago with a Mercury 150. Been very pleased with it. Yamaha & Suzuki are also good motors. I would make sure u have a strong dealer in the area to help with service.

What’s wrong with the 130?

Why are you getting another engine? If you 2 stroke is running I would keep it
4 strokes to me need more attention. A 2 stroke runs and runs and runs. The only issue with a 2 stroke is the carbs
Oil to gas gas. 50 to 1.

I have had the boat 3 years did the carbs twice. I know nothing is perfect but just hate the feeling it's not going to start..

I definitely like no pumping the ball,no pushing the key in and out, no grinding the starter. Just let the fuel pump prime up and twist the key.

I am a fan of the 150-175 hp range. Main thing is the weight. 4-strokes are heavier than 2-strokes and can make the stern squat in the water, changing the dynamics of the boat handling and the effectiveness of the scuppers. If speed isn't an issue, go with an engine closest in weight to your old one.

i have been looking at that, looks like a 140 suzuki is what i'm leaning towards. Ty

New here and need to begin posting, so here goes:
I own a 96 V21 with the original JohnsonRude 200. It weights 450lbs dry. I plan to replace it with the Merc 200 4S which weights in at 475lbs dry. The Merc has an oil sump JohnsonRude doesnt, but the JohnsonRude has a tank, and cable controls, the Merc does not. The Merc is electronic controls which will save weight. All in all I believe its a wash? Did I miss anything?
BTW, the 200 2stroke was good for 52MPH on GPS when new and no bottom paint. Eager to see what the 4Stoke motor does.
