Storm damage nearly erased..

Spent the past two years putting the river house back from Idalia and Helene. Gulf coast, Suwannee, Fl. I was doing weekends on the project until about this time last year when I decided to go after it full time. It’s just a trailer 2/2 about 4’ off the ground. But, it’s waterfront property that belonged to my parents and I intend to keep it for sentimental reasons. Time away from family and my commitment to keeping it has me feeling guilty. Doing it solo was the least expensive way to go, or was it? The toll on my mental health, constant pain in my back, not to mention the money that was spent..
Time will tell I guess.

I know where ur coming from,Ridge.

This past October was 7 years since we were hit by Michael, I’m still working on projects. I had a stand alone garage apartment behind my house that I had to rebuild. It was considered an out building, so no insurance. Got it dried in pretty quick, got sheetrock up 2 years ago. Just haven’t had the energy to get back on it.

Post some more pics, looks like a slice of old Florida that is disappearing daily.

Removed interior walls as they are layed on top of floor. Took paneling off walls and removed all insulation. The original floor was 1 1/4” wafer board tongue & groove. A precursor to OSB.

Built some plywood cabinets. Planned to paint but they looked too nice. I love wood…

Looks like you made your own cabinets. I did a renovation a couple of years ago, on a house we bought for a rental. I did lots of the work myself, went home soaked with sweat many days, wife got me ambulatory often with a big percussive vibrator on my back and lost about 20 lbs over a year of work. Didn’t build cabinets, but did do a complete trim out, a lot of demo and carpentry and spent about double my estimate. Your story brought it all back. It looks like you’re doing some good work and you’ll have a nice place when you’re done.

Affirmative on cabinets. The decision to stain and poly cost me some time. I coulda sprayed them white in a few hours.

In fact the lower boxes are painted white, face frame. The wood in kitchen is poplar. Bathroom is pine.

Hey, the not so glamorous stuff, you know the list that gets done without anyone really seeing what you did. That stuff needs to be celebrated just the darn same IMO..😳

Like moving a shed and building steps to replace what was there.
