Bow rail Why ?

I had the center cut out of my bowrail and capped off. This was mainly for unloading gear off of the bow when she is on the boat lift. I wanted to keep the sides of the rails for a spot to grab hold. I would have already gone swimming unintentionally many times without them.

Trout, mines kinda like yours (yours looks better)...whacked mine and put plastic tips in 'em...boat still floats...needed access for trollin' motor... :)...

Wow that’s an oldie and goodie post. Since you brought it up. I like the bow rail why you ask? I have rod holders attached to it and what's the first thing you grab when your standing on the bow throwing jigs for bluefish and you slip? The bow rail. BAM. Case closed

Dmoore, why is that a mistake? I cut mine out and haven’t had a problem. It may be that I removed the sliding hatch rails and stow the hatch in a rack on the cuddy overhead when I’m doing anchor work, so there’s no hatch in the way?

Wow - If I didn't have my bow rail, I don't think I would be here today - It was a life savior holding on to that sucker while pulling that anchor up in rough water, no windless - 🇺🇸 ❤️ 🇺🇸 ❤️ 🇺🇸

i kept mine because of my kids and their friends. We pull up to the sand bar or island and they all hug out in the cabin or on the bow. Does give a false sense of security to some, i see lotta kids riding on the bow with legs hanging over. Not a smart move.

If you ever have to go up on the bow deck in 3-4's having that bow rail in place gives you something to grab when you suddenly slip. If you don't have an anchor pulpit and do everything standing in the cuddy sure, less of an issue. Personally I think the bow rail adds to the overall look of the boat. Then again I'm a purist.:p

When you choose to install a bow pulpit on these boats you give up the amount of travel on the slider. Reaching for the safety pin on the anchor stay and removing it can be difficult for some standing in the cutty. Being 6' I can do it but others with me may not. Having the anchor mounted on the bow is a great advantage to not having to bring it out of the anchor locker below chipping gel coat as you do.

Agree with DM, bow pulpit is the way to go. Allows control of anchoring while standing in cabin. Also when anchoring shallow, lets me ease up until anchor is vertical and the bump forward to pop anchor out of mud.

Rail also gives me a place to store anchor ball on deck.
