We call them redbugs around here. They are bad around tall grass and terrible in the woods. I had a friend that got them so bad he had to go to the hospital. got them logging in the swamp. They were in the spanish moss hanging in the trees.

Yep, Blue is correct. I have a 1977 with saddle tanks. Bought it in 06 and unscrewed the bottom tabs, unhooked the sender wire and fuel line and vent hose. pulled them out. Theres a inspection cover it the top.
